HARTSVILLE, S.C. --- Megan Epperson (St. John,
Ind.) recorded a match-high 14 kills, and the Lees-McRae College
women's volleyball team tallied a .456 hitting percentage en route
to a 3-0 victory over Coker College in Conference Carolinas play on
Saturday afternoon.
Lees-McRae (5-6, 3-0 CC) swept the match by scores of 25-14,
25-17, and 25-11 to notch its fifth victory in its last seven
matches. The Lady Bobcats posted a blistering .456 hitting
percentage in the match, while holding Coker (0-8, 0-4 CC) to a
.135 clip on the attack.
Epperson turned in her seventh match with 10 or more kills this
season, recording 14 kills, four errors and a .385 hitting
percentage in 26 attempts. Whitney Justice (Connelly Springs, N.C.)
and Taylor Clendenin (Statesville, N.C.) each tallied seven kills
on the afternoon, turning in hitting percentages of .700 and .583,
respectively. Clendenin and Dana Oliver (Davie, Fla.) paced the
Lady Bobcats with eight digs each, while Megan Mitchell (Minden,
Nev.) chipped in 32 assists.
Lees-McRae got off to a strong start in the first set, opening
an early 7-3 lead before launching a 12-8 run to take a 19-11 lead.
The Lady Bobcats then closed out the frame with a 6-3 spurt to take
a 1-0 advantage in the match.
The Lady Bobcats continued to dictate the flow of the match in
the second frame, opening a 12-4 lead and stretching the margin to
17-8 before Coker went on a quick 3-0 spurt to close the gap to
17-11. Lees-McRae responded, closing out the set with an 8-6 run to
push its lead to 2-0.
Lees-McRae dispelled any doubt about the result of the match
early in the third set, opening the frame with a 9-3 run and
further stretching the lead to 16-5 with a 7-2 spurt. Coker would
close the gap to 18-10 before the Lady Bobcats responded with a 7-1
run to close out the set and the match.
The Lady Bobcats return to the court on Wednesday when they
travel to Due West, S.C. to take on conference-leading Erskine
College in a 7 p.m. matchup.
