BLACK MOUNTAIN, N.C. --- Vickie Rich (Arlington
Heights, Ill.) tallied two assists, and Katelyn Custer
(Mooresville, N.C.) scored her first match-winner of the season to
lead the Lees-McRae College women's soccer team to a 4-0 shutout
win over Montreat College on Wednesday night.
Lees-McRae (8-2) recorded its second straight clean sheet,
out-shooting the Cavaliers (0-8) by a 40-1 margin, including a 25-0
advantage in the first half. Custer, MaryBeth Sullivan (Greensboro,
N.C.), and Emily Jones (Leonardtown, Md.) each tallied a goal and
an assist, as Katy McGee (Hudson, Fla.) notched her second goal of
the campaign. Brooke Santerre (Port Republic, Md.) added one assist
while Rich tallied a season-high two helpers.
Custer opened the scoring early in the 34th minute, volleying a
cross from Santerre into the top corner after Rich fed Santerre via
the throw-in. McGee doubled the advantage in the 36th minute,
sending a volley into the bottom corner off a corner kick by Rich
to send the Lady Bobcats into the interval with a 2-0 lead.
Jones stretched the lead to 3-0 in the 55th minute off a
well-placed through ball by Custer and a pass from Sullivan, taking
the pass and slotting the finish into the far bottom corner for her
second goal of the season. Sullivan notched her sixth goal of the
season midway through the 56th minute, driving in a loose ball in
the area off a pass from Jones.
Lees-McRae returns to the pitch on Saturday when the Lady
Bobcats host Pfeiffer University to resume their Conference
Carolinas schedule. The match is slated for 2 p.m. at Tate
Field.
