DAVIDSON, N.C. --- The Davidson College men's
tennis team earned the doubles point, and won the final five
singles matches en route to a 6-1 victory over No. 23 Lees-McRae
College on Saturday morning in a non-conference tilt.
Davidson's (3-5) Joe Schafer (Orchard Park, N.Y.) and Chris Mark
(Union City, Calif.) defeated LMC's (1-3) Skylar Warren (Asheville,
N.C.) and Alexander Hayes (Mexico City, Mexico) by an 8-4 margin to
open doubles play, as Walker Lyons (Wallingford, Pa.) and Ethan
Kallick (Pittsburg, Pa.) won their pairing against Travis VanHoy
(Olin, N.C.) and Pedro de Sousa Nunes (Florianopolis, Santa
Catarina, Brazil) by an 8-1 score to give Davidson the doubles
point. Nandor Solymosi (Drebecen, Hungary) and Callum Loveridge
(Ashbourne, England) then won the third doubles pairing for LMC,
defeating Carter Braxton (Charlotte, N.C.) and Robert Lightbourn
(Nassau, Bahamas) by an 8-3 margin.
Solymosi notched his second win of the week over an NCAA
Division I opponent, defeating Schafer in an epic third-set
tiebreak en route to the 6-4, 2-6, (11-9) victory. Mark put
Davidson back in front with a 6-1, 6-2 victory over VanHoy as Lyons
defeated Hayes 6-1, 6-4 in the third singles matchup. Arie Hefter
(Birmingham, Ala.) defeated Nunes by scores of 6-4 and 6-0 in the
fourth doubles tilt, while Kevin Moore (Overland Park, Kan.) won
the fifth pairing 6-5, 6-1 over Graham Battle (Boone, N.C.).
Kallick then defeated Jacob Darling (Katikati, New Zealand) 6-2,
6-1 in the final matchup of the day.
Lees-McRae returns to the court on Tuesday when the Bobcats
travel to Hartsville, S.C. to take on Coker College in a Conference
Carolinas match. First serve is slated for 3 p.m.
