BANNER ELK, N.C. --- Colin O'Donoghue and
Garrett Kendall each tallied four goals to lead the Wingate
University men's lacrosse team to a 14-4 victory against Lees-McRae
College in non-conference play on Saturday afternoon.
Wingate (5-6) outshot the Bobcats (0-8) by a 47-29 margin,
including a 32-18 advantage in shots on goals, while converting
22-of-23 clear attempts. Lees-McRae converted 16-of-17 clear
attempts as the Bulldogs held a 35-31 edge in ground balls.
O'Donoghue and Kendall each recorded a game-high four goals for
Wingate, while Bryan Bayliss and Derek Watts each posted a pair of
tallies. Danny Dlugozima made 14 saves to earn the victory between
the pipes for the Bulldogs.
Danny Ives (Cheadle, Cheshire, England) paced the Bobcats with
two goals, swelling his season tally to a team-high 10 strikes.
Brett Yusiewicz (Chapel Hill, N.C.) added a tally as Kyle Judge
(Hampstead, Md.) recorded his first career goal. Andy Nesdill
(Phoenix, Ariz.) played the full 60 minutes in goal for the
Bobcats, recording 18 saves.
The teams traded a pair of goals to open the game, with Ives
evening the score at 2-2 with 3:29 left in the first quarter.
Bayliss then gave the Bulldogs a 3-2 lead with 38 ticks left in the
first, scoring on the man advantage off a pass from O'Donoghue.
Wingate turned it on in the second, outscoring the Bobcats by a
5-0 margin in the period to take an 8-2 lead into the intermission
on O'Donoghue's first of the game with 1:17 left in the half.
Bayliss added to the lead early in the third, scoring a shorthanded
goal 10 seconds into the second half to push the margin to 9-2.
Ives answered just over a minute later, trimming the margin to
9-3 with his second of the afternoon at the 13:40 mark. O'Donoghue
answered with three of Wingate's next four goals to push the margin
to 13-3. Judge capped the day's scoring with his first of the
season at the 6:06 mark of the fourth quarter, redirecting a
perfect pass from Quinn Struble (Durham, N.C.) into the back of the
net from close range.
Lees-McRae returns to action on Wednesday when the Bobcats
travel to Misenheimer, N.C. to take on Pfeiffer University in a
Conference Carolinas matchup at 4 p.m.
