KISSIMMEE, Fla. --- Lindsey Huntsinger
(Asheville, N.C.) laced two hits and drove in three runs to lead
the Lees-McRae College softball team to an 8-3 victory over
Chestnut Hill College in their opening game of the Rebel Spring
Games Tournament.
Anna Carter (Hurdle Mills, N.C.) added a single, driving in two
runs in the fifth inning to help push the Bobcats (7-9) to victory.
Laurel Gregg (Mars Hill, N.C.) and Bryce Campbell (Amherst, Va.)
combined to hold the Griffins (0-2) to three runs on just three
hits on a warm afternoon in Kissimmee.
The Griffins opened the scoring in the top of the first, plating
two quick runs when Veronica Wilenta (Brock, N.J.) walked and
scored on a Gianna Cavallo (Turnersville, N.J.) double. Chestnut
Hill scored its second run moments later when Gina DeAnnutis
(Hammonton, N.J.) laced a double to plate Cavallo.
The Bobcats struck back in the bottom of the inning, when
Kierstie Moon (Oxford, Ga.) walked and took second base with a
stolen base. Moon then moved to third on an illegal pitch, setting
Huntsinger up for a sacrifice fly to right field to plate Moon and
cut the Chestnut Hill advantage to 2-1.
The contest remained tied until the home half of the fourth
inning when Meagan Knowles (West Palm Beach, Fla.) belted a double
into left center to drive in Alison Armstrong (Bellingham, Mass.),
giving the Bobcats the 3-2 advantage.
Carter pushed the lead to 5-2 in the fifth inning, driving in
Kayla Blackburn (Millers Creek, N.C.) and Kim Coley (Marion, N.C.)
with a two-run single. The Bobcats added three runs in the sixth
behind three straight doubles to take an 8-2 advantage. Chestnut
Hill capped the day's scoring with a run in the top of the seventh
to equal the final margin of 8-3.
