BRISTOL, Tenn. --- Eddie Piccinini poured in a
game-high 19 points to lead the league-leading King College men's
basketball team to a 72-51 victory over Lees-McRae College on
Monday night in Conference Carolinas play.
King (14-3, 5-0 CC) ran its win-streak to five games to open its
conference schedule, posting a field goal percentage of 43.1
percent on the night, including a 54.2 percent clip in the second
half. The Tornado won the battle on the glass by a 40-35 margin,
including a 14-12 advantage on the offensive boards, while holding
Lees-McRae (3-11, 3-3 CC) to a 36 percent mark from the floor in
the contest.
Asad Lamot (Mebane, N.C.) paced the Bobcats with 12 points on
5-of-9 shooting, while BJ Battle (Orlando, Fla.) added 10 markers
of his own. Jeremiah Henry (Semmes, Ala.) chipped in six points and
a team-high six boards, while Daniel Sepokas (Illawong, Australia)
posted nine markers and three assists.
Piccinini led all scorers with 19 markers on 6-of-13 shooting,
going 6-for-8 from the charity stripe while hauling down five
rebounds. Lio Gedeon added a game-high 13 rebounds, while Brian
Hewitt and Brandon Goss chipped in 13 points each.
King led wire-to-wire, opening an early 26-5 lead in the first
half on a Hewitt triple with 8:15 to play in the period. The
Bobcats answered with an 18-6 run, closing the gap to 32-23 heading
into the intermission following a buzzer-beating three-pointer by
Lamot that was set up by Sepokas.
The Tornado responded in the second half, starting the period
with a 13-4 run to open a 45-27 lead on a pair of freebies from
Michael Fortune at the 14:28 mark. Lees-McRae would trim the margin
to 11 at 50-39 following a Lamot jumper before King regained
control, answering with a 20-4 surge to put the game out of reach
on a triple by Logan Lyle with 3:04 to play.
Lees-McRae returns to the court on Wednesday when the Bobcats
travel to Tigerville, S.C. to take on North Greenville University
at 7:30 p.m. in a conference showdown.
