MARS HILL, N.C. --- The Mars Hill College men's
tennis team won two of three doubles matches and each of the first
three singles flights en route to a 5-4 win over Lees-McRae College
on Saturday afternoon in non-conference play.
Mars Hill's (3-3) duo of Euquerio Guerrero and Lucas Simm kicked
off the afternoon with an 8-5 win over Lees-McRae's (0-2) Pedro De
Sousa Nunes (Florianopolis, Santa Catarina, Brazil) and Skylar
Warren (Asheville, N.C.) in the top doubles flight, before Enrico
Patriarca and Guilherme Lima gave the Lions a 2-0 advantage with an
8-1 victory against Alexander Hayes (Mexico City, Mexico) and
Marcelo Tatai (Sao Paulo, Brazil).
The Bobcats' Hang Lak Choi (Newton, N.C.) and Graham Battle
(Boone, N.C.) halved the margin to 2-1 with an 8-1 victory over
Zach High and Michael Melvill in the third flight, as Patriarca
defeated Hayes 6-2, 6-3 in the opening singles matchup. Simm
followed with a 1-6, 6-1, 6-0 win over Nunes, as Guerrero bested
Warren in the third flight, 7-6, 6-1 to hand Mars Hill the
victory.
Battle registered a 6-4, 6-4 win over Lima in the fourth flight,
as Tatai defeated High, 6-4, 6-3. Choi rounded out the day with a
4-6, 6-4, 10-2 victory against Melvill.
Lees-McRae returns to the courts on Monday when the Bobcats
travel to Newberry, S.C. to take on Newberry College in
non-conference play at 1 p.m.
