GAFFNEY, S.C. --- The No. 3 Limestone College
men's lacrosse team surged to a 15-1 halftime lead en route to a
25-1 victory over Lees-McRae College in Conference Carolinas play
on Wednesday afternoon behind a five-goal performance by Michael
Colonell.
Limestone (3-0, 1-0 CC) outshot Lees-McRae (1-3, 0-1 CC) by a
52-17 margin, including a 31-6 advantage in the first half, while
controlling the battle on the ground by a 62-31 stretch. The Saints
won 21-of-30 face-offs, while successfully converting 18-of-19
clear attempts.
Colonell paced the Saints with a game-high five goals, as Riley
Loewen added four strikes and one assist. Corey Rich chipped in
three goals, as Shayne Jackson posted a game-high three assists.
Jake Ternosky won 9-of-12 face-offs to go along with seven ground
balls, as Todd Nakasuji, Jon Woodworth, and Jackson Decker each
tallied two assists.
Dalton Lamb (Clemmons, N.C.) paced the Bobcats with his first
collegiate goal, as Brett Yusiewicz (Chapel Hill, N.C.) and Danny
Ives (Cheadle, Cheshire, England) added five and four shots,
respectively. Ryan Harrison (Lake Mary, Fla.), Ryan Sparks (Hilton
Head, S.C.), Derin Vacca (Wake Forest, N.C.), and Ives each posted
four ground balls, as Harrison made 14 saves between the pipes for
the Bobcats.
Limestone opened the scoring just 30 seconds into the contest,
taking a pass from Randy Waugh and finding the back of the net to
give the Saints an early 1-0 lead. Lamb answered for the Bobcats
two minutes later, scoring his first career goal to even the tally
at 1-1.
The Saints responded with six goals over the next 12 minutes,
taking a 7-1 lead into the second quarter following a tally by Matt
Burke at the 1:20 mark. Limestone continued to dictate play in the
second, netting eight goals to take a commanding 15-1 advantage
into the intermission.
Limestone would add seven goals in the third quarter, including
a trio of strikes by Colonell as Will Swank found the back of the
net with 44 seconds remaining in the period. The Saints capped the
afternoon with three tallies in the fourth to equal the final
margin of 25-1.
Lees-McRae returns to action on Friday when the Bobcats travel
to Rome, Ga. to take on Shorter University at 6 p.m.
