BANNER ELK, N.C. --- The Mount Olive College
men's tennis team rallied from a 2-1 deficit after doubles play
with four victories in singles action to edge Lees-McRae College in
Conference Carolinas play on Friday afternoon.
Lees-McRae's (1-10, 1-5 CC) tandem of Alexander Hayes (Mexico
City, Mexico) and Skylar Warren (Asheville, N.C.) kicked off the
afternoon with a hard-fought 9-8 victory against Mount Olive's
(12-4, 6-0 CC) duo of Edgar Bub and Gabriel Santana.
Akio Mariano and Murilo Pelegrino answered for the Trojans with
an 8-6 win over Pedro De Sousa Nunes (Florianopolis, Santa
Catarina, Brazil) and Marcelo Tatai (Sao Paulo, Brazil), before
Graham Battle (Boone, N.C.) and Hang Lak Choi (Newton, N.C.) gave
the Bobcats a 2-1 advantage with an 8-6 decision against Diogo
Sender and Brahm Moolman.
Bub evened the tally at 2-2 at No. 1 singles, registering a 6-0,
6-1 win against Nunes before Hayes countered with a 6-2, 6-4
victory over Santana. After Sender defeated Warren, 6-3, 7-6, and
Battle answered with a 6-1, 7-5 win against Mariano, Pelegrino and
Moolman posted a pair of 6-1, 7-5 victories against Tatai and Choi,
respectively, to complete the comeback for the Trojans.
Lees-McRae returns to the courts on Saturday when the Bobcats
host Barton College in conference play at 2 p.m.
