BANNER ELK, N.C. --- Marcelo Tatai (Sao Paulo,
Brazil) rallied for a thrilling victory in a third-set tiebreaker
to register the deciding point, and lead the Lees-McRae College
men's tennis team to a 5-4 win over Barton College in Conference
Carolinas play on Saturday afternoon.
Lees-McRae's (2-10, 2-5 CC) tandem of Alexander Hayes (Mexico
City, Mexico) and Skylar Warren (Asheville, N.C.) opened doubles
play with an 8-3 win over Barton's (4-9, 1-5 CC) duo of Max Leppert
and Renato Mendes. PA Desilets and Antoine Massicotte answered for
the Bulldogs with an 8-5 victory against Tatai and Pedro De Sousa
Nunes (Florianopolis, Santa Catarina, Brazil), before Graham Battle
(Boone, N.C.) and Hang Lak Choi (Newton, N.C.) defeated Jorge
Pradilla and Eric Simmons, 8-4.
Hayes defeated Leppert, 6-3, 6-0 in the second flight, as Mendes
posted a 6-3, 6-4 win over Warren at No. 3 singles. After Mendes
posted a 7-5, 7-5 victory against Battle and Choi defeated Simmons,
6-2, 6-1, Desilets rallied for a 1-6, 6-3, 6-3 win over Nunes in
the first singles flight to even the tally at 4-4. Choi then
delivered the deciding point for the Bobcats, rallying for a 1-6,
6-2, 7-6 victory over Massicotte to give Lees-McRae the 5-4
win.
Lees-McRae returns to the courts on Tuesday when the Bobcats
host Carson-Newman College at 2 p.m.
