BANNER ELK, N.C. --- Freshman Kelsey Twigg scored her second goal in as many matches, but it wasn't enough while the Lees-McRae women's soccer team dropped a 2-1 decision to Pfeiffer in Conference Carolinas action at Tate Field Saturday afternoon in Banner Elk, N.C.
The Falcons (4-4, 2-1 CC) climbed to .500 with the win and held a 7-2 advantage in corner kicks. The Bobcats (2-4, 2-1) dropped their season opening match despite an eight-save performance from senior goalie Kaitlyn Briggs (Oviedo, Fla.)
PU's Brae Buster started the scoring early when she was able to recover a loose ball in front of the net and bury a shot in 12th minute.
Twigg (Barrie, Ontario, Canada) blasted the equalizer exactly five minutes later after winning a foot race down the field following a long pass from teammate Cheyenne Warrick (Pikeville, N.C.).
Both offenses were held in check for the remainder of the opening frame.
The Falcons' Hannah Hill tallied the match-winner at the 47:21 mark when she bested Briggs after receiving a cross from Kaitlin Sampson.
Junior Sarah Mahar (Jacksonville, Fla.) and sophomore Erin Barcal (Wilmington, N.C.) paced the Bobcats with three shots each while a quarter of LMC player's registered two shots apiece.
