Women's Volleyball Drops Pair of 3-1 Decisions

BANNER ELK, N.C. --- Junior Avalon Liscio combined for 27 kills and senior Jariliz Cotté went for 26 while the Lees-McRae women's volleyball team dropped a pair of 3-1 decisions to UVa.-Wise and Brevard, respectively, Wednesday in at tri-match at Williams Gymnasium in Banner Elk, N.C.

UVa.-Wise 3, Lees-McRae 1

The Cavaliers (10-8) rallied back after dropping the first set 19-25 and used an impressive performance from Karley Allen, who had 21 kills and 12 digs. The Bobcats (4-14) swung at a sizzling .406 in the opening set while hitting .333 in the third.

UVa.-Wise jumped out a 5-0 lead in the first set and would maintain the cushion late into the set, 19-15.

LMC battled back behind a pair of Liscio (Naples, Fla.) kills.

Sophomore Rachel Cutshaw (Whitesburg, Tenn.) and junior Haylee Leonard (Wallburg, N.C.) stuffed a Ciara Kain attack to cut the deficit to two, 19-17.

Coach William Tatge's squad used a 7-1 run to end the first and grabbed the set 25-19.

The second set was a diaper-dandy when it saw 19 ties and no lead larger than two.

Senior Jordan Banta (Virginia Beach. Va.) tallied one of her eight kills to tie at 23.

The Cavaliers finished the set on a 3-1 run and used a kill and block assist from Kain to win it, 26-24.

A quartet of kills in the third from Liscio gave the Bobcats a 17-14 advantage.

The visiting squad responded with an 11-2 run to mount the comeback and win the set 25-19.

UVa.-Wise swung at a sparkling .481 mark in the fourth set and won it 25-15.

Senior Allyson Schillinger (Spring Hill, Fla.) led the team with 28 assists while sophomore Courtney Weathersbee (Raleigh, N.C.) had 23. Sophomore Madison Martin (Goldsboro, N.C.) led the squad with 12 digs.

Brevard 3, Lees-McRae 1

The Tornados (8-9) were powered by a 19-kill performance from Fatima Gharachorloo. The Bobcats (4-15) had a trio of players with 10 kills or more while Martin amassed 21 digs.

BC used a 12-3 run to break a 13-all tie in the first and swung at a match-best .429 clip.

Banta had three of her 11 kills in the set.

Cotté (Bayamon, Puerto Rico) had a healthy dozen kills in the contest while Liscio had 10.

A Cutshaw kill in the second gave the Bobcats a 15-11 lead and Banta followed shortly with one, making it 18-14.

The set continued to be a see-saw battle, but, the visitors went on a 13-7 run to grab a two-sets to none lead.

The Bobcats swung a team-best .385 and held BC to a match-low .042 while claiming the third, 25-18.

The fourth set provided seven ties and four lead changes and the Tornados eventually snagged the set, 27-25.

LMC travels to King (Tenn.) Saturday, Oct. 17 at 2 p.m. in Bristol, Tenn. for a Conference Carolinas tilt.
