BRISTOL, Tenn. --- The Lees-McRae women's volleyball team fell to King (Tenn.), 19-25, 12-25, 16-25 in Conference Carolinas play at the Student Center Saturday afternoon in Bristol, Tenn.
The Tornado (11-11, 5-4 CC) climbed to the .500 mark after an offensive display from Lauren Willoughby, who led the match with 14 kills. The Bobcats (4-16, 3-6) had four players with seven digs or more.
King jumped out to a 12-5 lead in the first while swinging at a match-best .483 clip in the opening frame.
LMC shaved the deficit to four, 13-9, following an Avalon Liscio (Naples, Fla.) kill and Tornado service error.
LMC continued its strong comeback with consecutive kills from sophomore Rachel Cutshaw (Whitesburg, Tenn.) and one from Haylee Leonard (Wallburg, N.C.).
Willoughby and Grace Underwood combined for four kills while producing an 8-4 run to conclude the set.
A quartet of Underwood kills broke a 5-5 tie in the second while the home team ripped off a 20-7 run to grab the set.
Senior Jordan Banta (Virginia Beach, Va.) connected on consecutive kills to give LMC an early 3-1 lead.
King took control of the set with a 12-4 run.
Senior Jariliz Cotté (Bayamon, Puerto Rico) and sophomore Madison Martin (Goldsboro, N.C.) had nine digs each while senior Allyson Schillinger (Spring Hill, Fla.) led the team with 10 assists.
LMC travels to Belmont Abbey Wednesday, Oct. 21 at 7 p.m. in Belmont, N.C.
