MARS HILL, N.C. --- Sophomore Thomas Deeley notched his second multi-goal match of the season while powering the Lees-McRae men's soccer offense in a 2-1 win at Mars Hill Wednesday evening in Mars Hill, N.C.
The Bobcats (5-6) saw sophomore Tyler Pavlet (Goodyear, Ariz.) make a season-high nine saves. The Lions (2-8-1) continued their season-long struggle despite 23 shots.
Deeley (Timaru, New Zealand) was in the right place at the right time when he corralled a rebound off an Isiah Rowland (Raleigh, N.C.) shot and smashed home the putback in the 25th minute.
It was Rowland's first collegiate point.
Pavlet buckled down and stonewalled a pair of MHU shots in a five-second span before making another save less than five minutes later.
Sophomore James Morgan (Newcastle, England) grabbed an assist when he fed Deeley on his second goal of the evening at the 73:10 mark.
The Lions cut the deficit in half on a successful penalty kick in the 80th.
Pavlet made his ninth and final save on an Oscar Mitchell header with 34 seconds remaining.
Coach Rich Wall's squad has won two of its last three and returns to action Saturday, Oct. 17 at 4 p.m. at Mount Olive in Mount Olive, N.C.
