Men's Soccer Stays Hot with Shutout at Mount Olive, 2-0

MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. --- Jacob Copeland and Maurice Kleinert tallied goals within three minutes of each other in the second half, propelling the Lees-McRae men's soccer team to a 2-0 win at Mount Olive Saturday afternoon in Mount Olive, N.C.

The Bobcats (6-6, 3-3 Conference Carolinas) won for the third time in four matches while Tyler Pavlet (Goodyear, Ariz.) earned his second shutout of the year. The Trojans (7-6, 5-3) failed to put a shot on goal in the contest.

The first half was an offensive struggle while both teams combined for only four shots.

UMO made the matches' lone save at the 29:21 mark off the foot of Copeland (Raleigh, N.C.)

Copeland struck gold when he broke a scoreless tie with 19:53 remaining in regulation. Sophomore Thomas Deeley (Timaru, New Zealand) earned the assist.

He has scored three goals this season after coming into the year with two in his career.

Sophomore Nathan Watt (Newcastle, United Kingdom) delivered a perfectly placed corner kick, allowing Kleinert (Hannover, Germany) to launch a shot into the back of the net from the near post in the 74th minute.

Four of coach Rich Wall's wins this season have come via the shutout.

The Bobcats welcome Barton Monday, Oct. 19 at 5 p.m. for a CC tilt at Tate Field.

The contest is a makeup from Oct. 3.
