Women's Volleyball Suffers Setback at Belmont Abbey, 3-0

BELMONT, N.C. --- Junior Avalon Liscio recorded her eighth double-digit kill effort, but the Lees-McRae women's volleyball team fell 20-25, 11-25, 19-25 to Belmont Abbey in Conference Carolinas action Wednesday evening at the Wheeler Center in Belmont, N.C.

The Crusaders (13-8, 7-3 CC) were led by Hannah Schellenberg and her match-high 22 kills. The Bobcats (4-17, 3-7) had four players with six or more digs.

Liscio (Naples, Fla.) and Rachel Cutshaw (Whitesburg, Tenn.) combined for four kills, sparking a 9-4 run in the first, tying it at 15.

Following a Gabby Martinez ball handling error, BAC ripped off a 9-2 run to sneak away with the first set.

The Crusaders swung at a match-best .346 clip in the second and used five Schellenberg kills in their first six points to set the tone early and grab the second set.

BAC jumped out to a 9-3 lead in the third and kept the Bobcats at arm's length despite a kill from senior Jariliz Cotté and a pair of BAC attack errors.

Cotté finished with nine kills while senior Allyson Schillinger (Spring Hill, Fla.) paced the team with 23 assists.

Sophomores Madison Martin (Goldsboro, N.C.) and Laneica Williams (Conover, N.C.) had 10 digs each.

LMC welcomes Pfeiffer Friday, Oct. 23 for a Dig Pink/Teal Match at 7 p.m. in Williams Gymnasium.
