BANNER ELK, N.C. --- Sophomore Madison Martin recorded her eighth consecutive double-digit effort in digs, but the Lees-McRae women's volleyball team fell to Erskine, 18-25, 18-25, 16-25, in a Conference Carolinas match Friday evening in Banner Elk, N.C.
The Flying Fleet (8-5, 6-0 CC) remained perfect in the conference and had four players with eight kills or more. The Bobcats (2-12, 1-4) used a 10-kill effort from Avalon Liscio (Naples, Fla.) in the loss.
Seniors Jordan Banta (Virginia Beach, Va.) and Jariliz Cotté (Bayamon, Puerto Rico) stuffed a Marissa Mayfield attempt, giving LMC a 7-6 lead early in the first.
EC stormed back with a 12-3 run powered by Marissa Greenough.
Haylee Leonard (Wallburg, N.C.) delivered an ace, cutting the deficit to five, 20-15.
The Flying Fleet would stave off the Bobcat rally while hitting a match-best .258.
Consecutive kills from Payton Duncan put the visitors up six, 13-7, in the second.
Coach William Tatge's squad grinded its way back into the contest and tied it at 15 after a pair of kills from Liscio and Cotté.
EC's Kristen Dodge sparked a 10-3 run that eventually ended the set.
The Flying Fleet used a 9-0 run and held the Bobcats to a -.029 mark to win the third.
Sophomore Rachel Cutshaw (Whitesburg, Tenn.) chipped in with five kills.
LMC welcomes Emmanuel (Ga.) at 12 p.m. for a CC tilt Saturday, Oct. 3 for the Bobcats' Homecoming match. The homecoming court ceremony will be held between the second and third set.
