Bobcats Throw Block Party in Homecoming Win, 3-0

Junior Avalon Liscio Interview

Coach William Tatge Interview

BANNER ELK, N.C. --- Junior Avalon Liscio cranked out a season-high 16 kills and the defense accumulated 14 blocks while the Lees-McRae women's volleyball team swept Emmanuel (Ga.), 25-21, 25-16, 35-33, in a Conference Carolinas match Saturday afternoon in Banner Elk, N.C.

The Bobcats (3-12, 2-4 CC) snapped a five-match losing skid while amassing six blocks in the third set along. The Lions (8-8, 2-5) saw Erica Burnham produced 15 kills.

Coach William Tatge's squad sprinted out to an 11-3 lead in the first set, sparked by Liscio (Naples, Fla.) and Jariliz Cotté. The duo combined for five kills and a block assist each.

The Bobcats would maintain a solid lead and held a 20-13 lead following consecutive blocks. Jordan Banta (Virginia Beach, Va.) earned a block assist on each.

EC would cut the lead the three, twice, but a Liscio kill concluded the first set.

LMC hit a remarkable .444 in the opening frame.

Siarra Walker (Winston-Salem, N.C.) and Liscio ignited a 9-4 run midway through the second to give the Bobcats a 17-10 advantage.

Cotté dished out two of her eight kills after the Lions' Kylah Maxwell-Brown cut the deficit to six.

The Bobcats defense stymied EC by holding it to a match-low .028 hitting clip.

The third set was the most entertaining set of the year by far for LMC while it saw 19 ties and seven lead changes.

The Lions took advantage of a trio of Bobcat attack errors to spark a 9-2 run, giving EC a 20-16 lead.

LMC thrived off the Homecoming crowd's energy and rallied back to take 25-24 lead following kills from Liscio and Allyson Schillinger (Spring Hill, Fla.).

Schillinger led the team with 24 assists.

The contest would teeter back and forth until Haylee Leonard (Wallburg, N.C.) finished the sweep with one of her five kills.

Liscio smashed eight kills in the third.

The Bobcats return to action Friday, Oct. 9 at 7 p.m. when they travel to Mount Olive, N.C.
