Women's Soccer Downed at Converse, 1-0

SPARTANBURG, S.C. --- The Lees-McRae women's soccer team suffered a 1-0 setback to Converse in Conference Carolinas action Saturday evening at The Fulp in Spartanburg, S.C.

The Valkyries (10-6, 6-4 CC) recorded 23 shots in the match, including 15 in the second half. The Bobcats (4-10-1, 2-6-1) saw freshman Alexis Feely (Wake Forest, N.C.) make 10 saves.

LMC put nine of its 11 shots on frame.

The Bobcats can't lose either of their two remaining matches and have Barton lose to North Greenville to grab the No. 8 seed in the upcoming CC Women's Soccer Tournament.

Converse scored the matches' lone goal at the 24:59 mark when Natalie Johnson found the lower corner after an Ella Ritchie free kick.

Feely made a pair of incredible saves in an 11-second span to keep the score at 1-0.

LMC's Lena Langille (Lawrencetown, Nova Scotia) peppered CC's goalie Savannah Humphries for a pair of shots in the final five minutes.

Senior Sarah Mahar (Jacksonville, Fla.) put three shots on frame to lead the Bobcats.

LMC travels to King (Tenn.) Tuesday, Oct. 27 at 1 p.m. for a CC tilt.
