BRISTOL, Tenn. --- Sophomore Thomas Deeley scored his third match-winner of the season with a goal with less than three minutes remaining in a 1-0 win against Conference Carolinas foe King (Tenn.) Tuesday afternoon in a dreary Bristol, Tenn.
The Bobcats (9-6, 6-3 CC) secured the No. 3 seed and will host a quarterfinal in the Conference Carolinas Men's Soccer Tournament. The Tornado (5-8-2, 4-4-2) was outshot 11-3 in the second half.
Coach Rich Wall's squad is riding a five-match win streak and hasn't allowed a goal in 369:56 minutes. It marks the longest streak for LMC since Sept. 18-Oct. 3, 2013 when it won five straight.
Deeley (Timaru, New Zealand) has been responsible for all the team's goals in the three matches he has delivered the match-winner.
Senior Jacob Copeland (Raleigh, N.C.) put a shot on frame early in the first, forcing King's Kari Sveinsson to make one of his five saves.
Sophomore Tyler Pavlet (Goodyear, Ariz.) earned his fourth shutout on the season with a one-save effort.
LMC's offense sprung to life in the second half and peppered the King defense for 11 shots, compared to the Tornado's three.
Five of those shots came in a five-minute span, including a header from Maurice Kleinert (Hannover, Germany) that hit the crossbar.
Deeley delivered the decisive blow off of a free kick that found the upper part of the net at the 87:32 mark.
Deeley, Kleinert and Nathan Watt (Newcastle, United Kingdom) notched three shots each.
The Bobcats welcome Erskine Saturday, Oct. 31 at 5 p.m. for Senior Day in a CC contest. Copeland, Mathew Cureton (Waxhaw, N.C.), James Abraham (Maidstone, England), Kevin Ruppert (Fayetteville, N.C.) and Gus Pederson (Sarasota, Fla.) will be honored prior to the contest.
