Bobcats Bust Out Brooms at Mount Olive, 3-0

MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. --- Sophomore Laneica Williams took advantage of her first start of the season and propelled the Lees-McRae women's volleyball team to a 25-18, 25-23, 25-14 victory against Mount Olive in a Conference Carolinas tilt Friday evening at Kornegay Arena in Mount Olive, N.C.

The Bobcats (4-12, 3-4 CC) completed their second consecutive sweep while Williams (Conover, N.C.) matched a team-high with eight kills. The Trojans (3-14, 2-5) struggled on offense while failing to hit more than .150 in any set.

Williams and sophomore Rachel Cutshaw (Whitesburg, Tenn.) sparked an 8-4 in the first set while combining for two block assists and three kills, breaking a 12-all tie.

Senior Jariliz Cotté (Bayamon, Puerto Rico) connected on two of her eight kills to close out the set.

Coach William Tatge's squad swung at a match-high .281 clip.

Cotté impressed defensively with 10 digs.

Junior Avalon Liscio (Naples, Fla.) ignited a 10-3 run to open the second with a pair of kills while senior Allyson Schillinger (Spring Hill, Fla.) distributed a quartet of assists.

UMO rallied back thanks to a trio of block assists from Sydney Kanupp and Sarah Watkins to knot the set at 13.

LMC retaliated with a 7-1 run, but the Trojans battled back to tie it at 23 after a pair of Britni Johnson aces.

Cutshaw and senior Jordan Banta (Virginia Beach, Va.) collected the final two points after a kill and ace, respectively.

The Bobcats took full advantage of sloppy play from the home team to take a 12-5 lead in the deciding set.

Cotté and Williams combine for two aces and three kills to pull away in the third.

Schillinger led the team with 15 assists while sophomore Courtney Weathersbee (Raleigh, N.C.) dished out 13. Sophomore Madison Martin (Goldsboro, N.C.) paced the defense with 14 digs.

LMC looks for its third consecutive win Saturday, Oct. 10 at 2 p.m. when it battles Barton in Wilson, N.C.
