Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Leonard, Liscio Lead Lashing of Converse in Women's Volleyball Action, 3-1

SPARTANBURG, S.C. --- Juniors Haylee Leonard and Avalon Liscio had 12 kills each while the Lees-McRae women's volleyball team dispatched Converse, 25-17, 20-25, 25-20, 25-19, in Conference Carolinas action Friday night at Hannah Gym in Spartanburg, S.C.

The Bobcats (6-18, 5-8 CC) swung .279 on the match while five players had seven digs or more. The Valkyries (3-20, 0-13) continued their season-long struggle by hitting below .060 in two of the four sets while Katie Butler led all players with 18 kills.

Leonard (Wallburg, N.C.) has notched consecutive matches with 12 kills.

Neither team could hold much of a lead until Converse grabbed a five-point advantage, 17-13, after a pair of Krislyn Moore block assists and an assist.

Coach William Tatge's squad responded loudly with a 12-0 run, powered by a trio of Liscio (Naples, Fla.) kills.

Sophomore Madison Martin (Goldsboro, N.C.) contributed with an ace to give the Bobcats the lead for good.

The Valkyries did their best Bobcat impression with an 11-0 run in the middle of the second to take a healthy lead after two Butler kills.

Converse would keep LMC at arm's length and eventually take the set after a Bobcat setting error.

LMC's offense got rolling in third and grabbed a 14-7 lead following a Jariliz Cotté kill and a quartet of Valkyries' errors.

Cotté mashed out nine kills in the contest.

Converse tried to put a comeback together, but failed after Liscio and Leonard stuffed a Butler attack attempt.

Leonard delivered a kill to conclude the third while the team swung at a .333 clip.

The fourth and final set was a see-saw battle while consecutive Butler kills gave the home team a 15-13 lead.

Sophomore Courtney Weathersbee tied it at 16 with back-to-back aces.

Jordan Banta (Virginia Beach, Va.) and Laneica Williams (Conover, N.C.) contributed kills while LMC grabbed the deciding set and impressed with a .440 clip.

Senior Allyson Schillinger (Spring Hill, Fla.) paved the way for LMC with 21 assists and matched a team-high with nine digs.

Martin and Weathersbee combined for five aces.

The Bobcats travel to Gaffney, S.C. Saturday, Oct. 31 at 6 p.m. to battle Limestone in a CC tilt.
