Softball Drops Two in Jefferson City

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. --- The Lees-McRae softball team fell to Carson-Newman, 9-0, before dropping a 16-2 decision to Indiana Wesleyan Saturday afternoon at The Vick in Jefferson City, Tenn.

Carson-Newman 9, Lees-McRae 0 (5 Innings)

The Eagles (11-2) scored four runs in both the second and third inning while Haley Taylor led the way with three RBI.

A trio of CNU players had multi-hit games while Danielle Kranz (6-1) picked up the win with a complete game two-hit shutout effort.

Senior Tori Wright (Boone, N.C.) and freshman Sara Weatherholtz (Hampton, Ga.) registered the Bobcats (1-10) only hits.

Sophomore Charlie Dutton (0-4) suffered the loss after allowing five runs in four innings of work.

Indiana Wesleyan 16, Lees-McRae 2 (5 Innings)

The Bobcats (1-11) took an early 1-0 lead after senior Amanda Decker (Apex, N.C.) drove in Sarah Stallings (Greensboro, N.C.) with a single.

The Wildcats (1-1) hung an eight spot in the third inning, powered by a bases clearing double by K. Meyers following consecutive bases loaded walks.

Stallings scored her second run of the game following an IWU fielding error.

IWU plated seven more runs in the fourth thanks to two dingers, including a three-run blast from S. Kreitzer.

LMC returns to action Wednesday, March 4 for a doubleheader at Tusculum at 3 & 5 p.m. in Greeneville, Tenn.
