BANNER ELK, N.C. --- Junior Joao Araujo picked up a win at No. 1 singles, but the Lees-McRae men's tennis squad fell to North Greenville, 8-1, in Conference Carolinas play Saturday afternoon at the LMC Tennis Courts in Banner Elk, N.C.
The Crusaders improved to 5-5 on the season and are unblemished in conference play (4-0) while they won all doubles by an identical 8-4 score. The Bobcats fell to 3-10 and remain winless in CC play (0-3).
Araujo (Curitiba, Puerto Rico) outmuscled Sjors van Eck in No. 1 singles action, 6-3, 6-4 to pick up LMC's lone win of the match.
Sophomore Garrett Lakey (North Wilkesboro, N.C.) and senior Hang Lak Choi (Newton, N.C.) played well at No. 4 & 5 singles, respectively, but, ultimately fell.
LMC will enjoy an eight-day layoff before traveling to Franklin Springs, Ga. to take on Emmanuel (Ga.) at 2 p.m. Monday, March 29.
