Furious Bobcat Rally Falls Short Against North Greenville, 16-13

BOONE, N.C. --- The duo of Dalton Lamb and Blaine Stottlar combined for nine goals while the Lees-McRae dropped a heartbreaker, 16-13, to North Greenville in Conference Carolinas play Saturday afternoon at Watauga High School in Boone, N.C.

The Crusaders (1-4, 1-0 CC) used a seven-goal third quarter while Dieter Treusdell overcame an eight-turnover performance to score five goals. The Bobcats (0-4, 0-2) scored 13 goals for the first time since Feb. 17, 2012 (vs. Florida Tech).

Both teams combined to go 35-for-41 in clears while LMC forced 22 turnovers.

The Bobcats took advantage of aggressive play from NGU by tallying two man-up goals in the first quarter while Stottlar (Clinton, N.Y.) continued his first quarter success.

Stottlar has tallied a first-quarter goal in every contest this season.

The Crusaders' Drew Warren put the visitors up 5-4 with 13:46 remaining in the second.

Coach Darry Thornton's squad dominated over the next quarter of play by scoring five unanswered goals.

Tanner Jones (Comox Valley, B.C.) corralled a Joshua Shingleton (Temecula, Calif.) pass and netted his second goal of the contest at the 13:48 mark in the third quarter.

NGU retorted with a 7-0 run, powered by a pair of Treusdell goals and an assist while Drew Wassenaar dished out an assist and a goal.

A resilient Bobcat squad clawed back into it with a 4-0 run while Lamb (Clemmons, N.C.) and Stottlar combined for all four goals.

Stottlar scored the goal of the game with a no-look backhanded shot at the 7:38 mark in the fourth.

The Crusaders' Wassenaar tallied two unassisted goals in the final 3:21 while NGU finished the game on a 3-0 run.

Dillon Quinn (Greensboro, N.C.) impressed by winning 5-of-6 from the faceoff circle. Freshman Jordan Lombardo (York, Pa.) stopped 10 shots in the contest.

Both offenses were evenly matched in shots (38-37) while Louis Parks led LMC with six groundballs. Tam Nyugen forced three turnovers.

The Bobcats head south to battle Florida Southern Tuesday, March 10 at 7 p.m. in Lakeland, Fla.
