BANNER ELK, N.C. --- A quartet of Lees-McRae men's tennis players won a pair of matches each while the team breezed past Southern Wesleyan, 8-1, in a Conference Carolinas match Saturday at LMC Tennis Courts in Banner Elk, N.C.
The Bobcats (5-11, 2-4 CC) held off a feisty SWU squad by claimed a pair of three-set wins. The Warriors (0-15, 0-9) remain winless on the season despite a win at No. 5 singles.
No. 1-3 singles saw the first set have to be decided by a tiebreaker, however, LMC proved to victorious in all of them.
Joao Araujo (Curitiba, Puerto Rico) staved off Camilio Sandoval, 7-6 (9-7), 6-1 to grab a win at No. 1 singles. The junior joined Garrett Lakey (North Wilkesboro, N.C.) to beat Sandoval and Keegan Barkley, 8-1, in No. 1 doubles.
Lakey ousted Jacob Chesney, 7-6 (8-6), 6-2 at No. 3 singles.
Junior Carlos Pinel (Vitoria, Espírito Santo, Brazil) thwarted Barkley, 7-6 (7-2), 4-6, 10-7, to win a highly-competitive No. 2 singles battle.
Freshman Sebastian Zuhr earned a three-set win against Ballenger at No. 4 singles.
