AIKEN, S.C. --- The Lees-McRae women's volleyball team fell 3-0 to Lander and Palm Beach Atlantic at the USC Aiken Invitational Friday at the Convocation Center in Aiken, S.C.

The Bearcats (5-1) boasted a powerful defense that held LMC to a hitting percentage of .044 or worse in all three sets. The Bobcats (0-5) saw the senior duo of Jariliz Cotté (Bayamon, Puerto Rico) and Jordan Banta (Virginia Beach, Va.) produce double-digit kills with 12 and 10, respectively.
Junior Haylee Leonard (Wallburg, N.C.) delivered a service ace in the first, capping off a 6-1 run, but LMC trailed 10-9.
Lander responded loudly and produced a 15-7 run to end the set.
The Bearcats were led by Sophia Perkins, who had 27 assists and Halle Dotson, with 13 kills.
Senior Allyson Schillinger (Spring Hill, Fla.) and sophomore Courtney Weathersbee (Raleigh, N.C.) amassed 14 assists each while Cotté led the team with 13 digs.
Palm Beach Atlantic 3, Lees-McRae 0
The Sailfish (3-1) hit an eye-popping .455 in the opening set while Faith Rohn led the team with 10 kills. The Bobcats (0-6) had a quartet of players with three kills or more.
Schillinger continued her impressive senior season with a team-high 13 digs in the contest. Weathersbee paced the team with five assists.
LMC battles Nova Southeastern at 10 a.m. before taking on Fayetteville State at 4 p.m. in day two at Aiken, S.C.
