WINGATE, N.C. --- Junior Avalon Liscio cranked out a match-high 13 kills, but the Lees-McRae women's volleyball team dropped a 19-25, 13-25, 19-25 contest to South Atlantic Conference powerhouse Wingate Tuesday evening at Cuddy Arena in Wingate, N.C.
The Bulldogs (12-2) swung at a .230 mark or better in all three sets while eight players notched three kills or more. The Bobcats (2-11) used strong play all around while Liscio (Naples, Fla.) produced her third double-digit kill effort of the season.
The contest was televised on ESPN3.
Coach William Tatge's squad hustled out to a 13-9 lead in the first thanks to sloppy play from WU and dynamic play from Liscio and senior Jordan Banta (Virginia Beach, Va.).
The duo combined for five kills during the spurt.
The Bulldogs rallied back and took a 16-15 lead following a kill and block assist from Phoebe Haveenar.
WU would eventual claim the set after a trio of Hannah Givens kills. The team hit at a match-high .281 clip.
The home team led by as many as eight in the second set before sophomores Siarra Walker (Winston-Salem, N.C.) and Rachel Cutshaw (Whitesburg, Tenn.) bashed out consecutive kills.
Walker amassed four kills on the evening.
WU claimed the final three points to grab the set.
Liscio and Cutshaw led the Bobcat charge in the third while the set proved to be entertaining with multiple lead changes.
LMC snagged a 15-14 advantage after a Courtney Weathersbee (Raleigh, N.C.) and Banta block.
However, WU responded an 11-4 run to complete the sweep.
Senior Allyson Schillinger paved the way for LMC with 19 assists while sophomore Madison Martin (Goldsboro, N.C.) impressed defensively with 14 digs.
The Bobcats welcome Erskine for a Conference Carolinas tilt Friday, Oct. 2 at 7 p.m. in Williams Gymnasium as a part of Homecoming Weekend.
