HICKORY, N.C. --- The Lees-McRae women's soccer team suffered a 2-0 loss to Lenoir-Rhyne in its season-opening match in a nonconference battle at Moretz Sports-Athletic Complex Thursday evening in Hickory, N.C.
The Bears (1-0) only managed three saves while amassing 25 shots. The Bobcats (0-1) saw freshman Alexis Feely (Raleigh, N.C.) accumulate 11 saves in her collegiate debut.
LR took an early 1-0 lead thanks to a penalty kick 74 seconds into the contest, off the foot of Emmi Dunn.
Sophomore Kelsey Twigg (Barrie, Ontario, Canada) had a shot fly wide in the 19th minute, keeping the Bears in the lead 1-0.
Twigg led LMC with four shots.
LR extended its lead when Garcelle Alequine tallied a goal at the 62:48 mark.
Bobcat junior Emma McGovern (Lexington, N.C.) chipped in with three shots in the loss.
LMC returns to action when it welcomes Queens (N.C.) Sunday, Sept. 6 at 3 p.m. to Tate Field.
