BANNER ELK, N.C. --- Freshman Cole Douglas-Fields provided heroics for the Lees-McRae men's tennis team Monday afternoon in a 5-4 win against Emmanuel (Ga.) in Conference Carolinas play at the LMC Tennis Courts in Banner Elk, N.C.
The Bobcats earned their first win of the season (1-13, 1-8 CC) after Gabriel Muniz (Soao, Brazil) and Joao Araujo (Curitiba, Brazil) won a pair of matches apiece. The Lions fell to 1-17, 0-9.
Douglas-Fields (Asheville, N.C.) defeated David Forehand by identical 6-3 scores in the decisive match. The overall score was knotted at 4 when the two squared off at No. 6 singles.
Muniz and Araujo jumpstarted the Bobcats day with an 8-1 win at No. 1 doubles.
Sebastian Zuhr (Burlington, N.C.) and Garrett Lakey (North Wilkesboro, N.C.) followed suit with an impressive 8-4 win at No. 2 doubles.
Araujo picked up a hard-fought win at No. 1 singles with a 6-7, 6-1, 6-2 decision against Braden Anglin.
Muniz outlasted Lucas Pereira, 6-2, 7-6 at No. 2 singles.
LMC hosts Erskine Saturday, April 16 at 1 p.m. for Senior Day in a virtual must-win in Banner Elk, N.C.
