Climbing Team Notches Three Podium Finishes at Appalachian State Southern Comfort Event

BOONE, N.C. - The Lees-McRae College climbing team participated in regional competition at Appalachian State's Southern Comfort event on Saturday (Nov. 10). 

While not sponsored by USA Climbing, the event included teams from the University of North Carolina, Brevard College and East Carolina University.

LMC posted three podium finishes in the event with Delaney Colangelo placing third in the women's beginner division, team co-captain Christine Turk winning the women's intermediate division and head coach Carter Smith finishing second in the men's pro category.

"The thing I am most proud of as a coach is that each and every one of or athletes pushed themselves mentally and physically and really gave their all while maintaining a strong positive attitude and sporting conduct," said Smith. "They represented the school, themselves, and the team in such a positive manner. I cannot be more proud of how our first real comp as a team went."
