CULLOWHEE, N.C. - The Lees-McRae College climbing team competed at Western Carolina University's event back on Feb. 16.
Team captain Chrissy Turk took third in a talented women's field that included a national and Pan-American championship winner. Paul Cope came away with the win in the men's novice category, while many other Lees-McRae competitors were able to bump themselves into higher skill categories.
"I am so proud of Paul and Chrissy for their strong podium placements, but I am also proud of the entire team for trying their hardest," said head coach Carter Smith. "Everyone really puts in the work at practice and outside of practice to not only do well in competition but become stronger, more capable young adults in the process."
The team will head to the collegiate regional championships in Nashville, Tenn. on Mar. 30.
