MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - The Lees-McRae College climbing team was represented at Collegiate Climbing Nationals last weekend (Apr. 26-27), with the event sponsored by USA Climbing. Freshman Paul Cope and junior Chrissy Turk competed for Lees-McRae in the national event.
Both climbers competed in the speed and sport disciplines at the competition. Turk would finish 44th in the speed climbing discipline, while also tying for 62nd in the sport discipline. Cope finished 102nd in the sport discipline and 124th in the speed discipline.
The representation and performance at Nationals saw Lees-McRae finish 75th in the nation overall.
In addition to the competition, Turk was named a 2019 Collegiate Climbing Ambassador runner-up, and will receive a scholarship from USA Climbing for next year.
“We look forward to seeing what the future holds for the team and all of our talented athletes,” said head coach Carter Smith. “Coaching these amazing students has been one of the highlights of my career thus far and I cannot wait for next season!”
