BANNER ELK, N.C. – The Lees-McRae College women's basketball team fell to Limestone College at home on Wednesday afternoon by a final score of, 85-65.
The Saints of Limestone College began the game hot from behind the arc. This early success from deep allowed them to quickly build a lead over the Bobcats. Lees-McRae countered by working the post with Davinique Campbell who had eight points in the first half. Later in the first quarter, Destiny Johnson drove to the basket and scored a layup, giving the Bobcats their first lead of the game.
Limestone again caught fire offensively early in the second quarter to bolster their lead over the Bobcats. Lees-McRae was able to stop the bleeding, finding Jala Holloman in the corner for a three that cut the deficit to four.. The two sides went back and forth, trading baskets and entered the halftime locker room with the Saints leading by six.
Lees-McRae began the third quarter with renewed energy and cut the Limestone lead to one in the first few minutes of second half action. Moments later, Davinique Campbell knocked down an eight-foot jumper that put the Bobcats up by one, 49-48. Unfortunately for Lees-McRae, it was all Saints from there on. Limestone went on an 11-0 that the Bobcats were not able to recover from, dropping the game, 85-65.
Lees-McRae will return to action Thursday when they face Erskine at home. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
