BANNER ELK, N.C. – The Lees-McRae College Women's lacrosse team defeated Emmanuel University on Wednesday afternoon by a final score of 19-9. With the win, the Bobcats improve to 2-3 on the season and 2-1 in conference play.
The early portions of the first half were fast paced, with both sides taking advantage of several scoring opportunities. Lees-McRae drew blood first with an unassisted goal from Haley Donovan only 50 seconds into the game. From there, the Lions and Bobcats went back and forth until the later portions of the half when a Patterson Jones goal gave Lees-McRae an eight to five lead and the Bobcats were able to create separation. Lees-McRae continued that momentum and entered halftime with a 12-8 advantage.
After the break, Lees-McRae found their form and dominated the Lions. Beth Haynes led the second half charge, scoring four goals in the period. On the other side, Emmanuel failed to finish around the goal and this allowed Lees-McRae to widen their lead even further. Makayla Willets scored late in the half on a free position opportunity which put the Bobcats up by 10 and all but sealed the victory. Lees-McRae was able to manage the clock well and see out the victory, winning 19-9.
The Bobcats will return to action Saturday when they face Mount Olive on the road at 5 p.m.
