Women’s Volleyball falls short in hard-fought loss to Belmont Abbey in three

BELMONT, N.C.Hailey Gilreath finished with a team-high 12 kills, while both Lauren Xayavong and Carlee Allbaugh finishes with 18 digs, but it was not enough as Belmont Abbey posted a 44-29 advantage in kills en route to claiming the three-set win over the visiting Bobcats in the Conference Carolinas match this evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Natasha Colon Moreno tallied six kills and eight digs, while Xayavong chipped in 18 digs and three assists.
  • Allbaugh finished with 24 assists to go along with four service aces, with Kaden Hill adding four kills, two solo blocks, and two block assists.
  • Lees-McRae stormed out of the gates by scoring seven of the first nine points of the match but surrendered a late run by Belmont Abbey to even the score at 26-26.
  • The Crusaders used a pair of late kills to clinch the first set, 28-26.
  • Both teams battled throughout the second set, with neither team gaining more than a single-digit lead, until the Bobcats used a kill by Gilreath to hold a 22-19 lead.
  • Belmont Abbey closed on a 7-2 run to win the second frame, 26-24.
  • The Crusaders overcame an early 7-0 run by Lees-McRae to clinch the conference victory with a 25-20 win in set three.
  • The Bobcats held a slim 8-7 lead, with each team tallying five total blocks.
 
FOR THE FOES:
  • Jenna McCullough finished with a match-high 14 kills to pace the Crusaders.
  • Paige Rawlins chipped in 34 assists and 16 digs.
 
UP NEXT:
The Bobcats will host Mount Olive in a Conference Carolinas match on Friday, Oct. 15 at 7 p.m.
