Smith, Dyson power Men’s Soccer to tie against North Greenville, 2-2

BANNER ELK, N.C.Gray Smith and Fletcher Dyson both scored first-half goals, with Zach Aversano and Lane Koch tallying assists, as the Lees-McRae men's soccer team played to a 2-2 tie against visiting North Greenville in the Conference Carolinas match this evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • North Greenville used a quick start, scoring only five minutes into the first half, to grab the early momentum.
  • Lees-McRae responded just under five minutes later as Smith collected a rebound off an initial shot by Aversano and headed his second goal of the season into the back of the net.
  • The Bobcats reclaimed the lead in the 25th minute as Dyson took a one-timer from outside the 18-yard box that went directly through the goalkeeper's hands to clinch his third goal of the season. Koch added an assist on the play.
  • North Greenville overcame the halftime deficit by scoring their second goal in the 49th minute to even the score at 2-2.
  • Both teams had chances late, with timely saves sending the game into the extra session.
  • Dyson had a pair of chances in the first overtime, while Tamino Brown had a pair of prime scoring opportunity in the final overtime, but neither could break through as the score remained 2-2 at the end of the 110 minutes of action.
  • Joshua Garvilla finished with two saves in net for the Bobcats.
  • Both team finished with 16 shots, while the Bobcats posted a game-high seven shots-on-goal.
 
FOR THE FOES:
  • Luiz Neto and Christopher Holscher scored for the Crusaders.
  • Reno Van der Meer finished with game-high five saves in net for North Greenville.
 
UP NEXT:
The Bobcats will next host Barton in a Conference Carolinas showdown on Saturday, Oct. 23 at 4 p.m.
