Men’s Lacrosse stumbles against Mars Hill, 14-10

MARS HILL, N.C.Ryan Beauchamp, Tyler Flannelly and Mike Moore combined to score seven goals, but it was not enough as Mars Hill outscored the visiting Bobcats 11-7 in the second half en route to claiming a 14-10 victory in the non-conference action this evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Beauchamp scored a team-high three goals to go along with an assist.
  • Flannelly tallied two goals and a game-high 10 ground balls, while Moore chipped in two goals and three assists.
  • Jacob Zellen finished with three caused turnovers.
  • After Mars Hills kicked off the scoring with two early goals, the Bobcats trimmed the deficit in half with a goal by Beauchamp with only 18 seconds left in the quarter.
  • Lees-McRae evened the score just under three minutes into the second frame as Moore tallied his third of the year and claimed their first lead as Tyler Finley scored off an assist by Brady Ferriter.
  • The Lions scored a final goal of the first half to even the score at 3-3 at halftime.
  • Mars Hill outscored the Bobcats 4-3 in the third quarter to extend their lead to 7-6 at the final intermission.
  • Lees-McRae used three goals by Flannelly, Moore and Jonathan Barry in the first five minutes of the fourth quarter to even the score at 9-9.
  • The Lions scored five of the final six goals to escape with the non-conference victory.
  • The Bobcats held a 25-21 shots on goal advantage and caused 28 Mars Hill turnovers, but finished 0 for 5 on man-up advantages.
  • Mars Hill finished 2 of 3 on extra-man opportunities.
  • Antonio Cruz finished with seven saves in net for the Bobcats.
 
FOR THE FOES:
  • Zac Carrigan and Brandon Beland combined for 11 goals and three assists to pace the Lions.
  • Steven Smith finished with a game-high 15 saves in net for Mars Hill.
 
UP NEXT:
The Bobcats host Newberry in a non-conference contest next Wednesday at 6 p.m.
