Women’s Tennis opens season with win over Mars Hill, 5-2

MARS HILL, N.C. – The Lees-McRae women's tennis team swept the doubles competition and won four of the six singles matches en route to earning a 5-2 win over host Mars Hill in the non-conference season opener this afternoon. The victory marks the first under new head coach Gene Highfield.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

• Zeynep Cakirer won #2 singles, Nursharneem Shamsuddin posted a win in #3 singles, while both Laura Ocampo and Tessa Wells claimed victories in #5 and #6 singles.
• Sandy Allen and Shamsuddin won in #1 doubles.
• Mei Hiramatsu and Zeynep Cakirer posted a victory in the #2 doubles, while Tessa Wells and Laura Ocampo won the #3 doubles competition.
