Men’s Basketball stumbles against Chowan, 97-90

MURFREESBORO, N.C. – Chowan finished with five players scoring in double figures and shot over 54 percent from the field to clinch a 97-90 victory over the visiting Bobcats in the Conference Carolinas action this evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Andrew Gardner finished with a season-high 18 points off the bench on 7 of 9 shooting, to go along with a team-high six rebounds, to pace the Bobcats.
  • Jamarius Hairston and Justin Nichelson each tallied with 11 points and combined to grab four rebounds, while Malik McConnell chipped in 10 points and three assists.
  • Quay Kimble and Cale Harris each added eight points.
  • Chowan sprinted out of the gates by scoring 16 of the first 19 points but failed to hold the momentum as the Bobcats cut the deficit to 33-31 on a dunk by Harris with seven minutes left in the first half.
  • The Hawks used a jumper, just before the first-half buzzer, to push the lead back to 56-38 at the halftime break.
  • The Bobcats trimmed the deficit to three points at multiple points in the second half, including a 89-86 deficit with 2:21 left in the contest.
  • Lees-McRae used a layup by Kimble with 1:04 remaining to make it a one-score game (91-89).
  • The Hawks went 6 for 6 on free throws down the stretch to clinch the conference win.
  • The Bobcats shot 52.4 percent from the floor and outrebounded Chowan 36-33.
 
FOR THE FOES:
  • Jaylen Dilliard finished with 26 points on 10 of 13 shooting to lead the Hawks.
  • Elijah Hill chipped in 18 points, while Jonathan McFall and Jamal Thomas added 14 points each.
 
UP NEXT:
The Bobcats close out their regular season tomorrow at Barton. Tip-off is set for 4 p.m.
