Three Bobcats combine for 34 kills as Women’s Volleyball powers past Southern Wesleyan in four

BANNER ELK, N.C.Olivia Ney, Caitlyn Smirne, and Kaden Hill combined for 34 kills, while Carlee Allbaugh posted her sixth double-double of the season with a career-high 43 assists and 18 digs, to lead the Lees-McRae women's team to a four-set victory over visiting Southern Wesleyan. With the win, the Bobcats start 4-0 at home for the second consecutive year.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Ney finished with a team-high 13 kills to go along with four block assists.
  • Smirne notched her fifth double-double of the season with 12 kills and 13 digs, while Hill chipped in nine kills, a solo block, and three block assists.
  • Lauren Xayavong also tallied 20 digs and six assists.
  • After surviving a late 6-0 run by Southern Wesleyan, the Bobcats scored seven of the next nine points to take a 21-19 lead.
  • Lees-McRae used a late kill by Alivia Larson to claim a 25-23 win in set one.
  • The Bobcats sprinted out of the gates in the second frame, winning 15 of the first 21 points, and used a pair of kills by Smirne to clinch a 25-14 win in set two.
  • Southern Wesleyan responded by winning the third set by a 25-23 score.
  • The Warriors nearly evened the sets score by using an 8-2 run to take a 20-18 lead, but the Bobcats closed on a 7-3 run to post the four-set victory.
  • Lees-McRae held a 51-44 edge in kills and an 8-2 advantage in aces.
 
FOR THE FOES:
  • Olivia Johnson and Emily Ellis finished with 17 and 10 kills respectively.
  • Kali Letcher tallied 22 assists to lead the Warriors.
 
UP NEXT:
The Bobcats close out the Conference Carolinas weekend as they host Chowan tomorrow at 2 p.m.
