BANNER ELK, N.C. – Addyson Ikard,
Charlsy Traylor, and
Katelyn Wyatt combined for seven hits and three RBIs in a game one loss, while
Morgan Crowe and
Sarah Beth Thomas went a combined 5 of 6 from the plate with an RBI and three runs scored in game two to lead the Lees-McRae softball team to a split with Southern Wesleyan this afternoon.
GAME #1 BASICS
FINAL SCORE: Southern Wesleyan – 15; Lees-McRae – 3 (6 inn.)
LOCATION: Softball Field – Banner Elk, North Carolina
RECORDS: Southern Wesleyan (11-6/5-2), Lees-McRae (3-18/0-7)
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Ikard went 3 for 4 in the opening game with one RBI, while Traylor and Wyatt both finished 2 for 4.
- Julie Gast and Thomas both finished with a hit and a run scored.
- Amber Corvin and McKinley Johnson also registered a hit.
- Southern Wesleyan opened the scoring in the top of the second and extended the lead to 5-0 in with a four-run third inning.
- The Bobcats pushed across their first run in the bottom of the third as Wyatt singled to score Gast from third base.
- The Warriors scored a single run in the top of the fifth before tallying nine runs in the top of the sixth.
- Lees-McRae was able to push across two runs in the bottom of the sixth on a pair of RBI singles by Ikard and Wyatt but failed to shift the momentum as Southern Wesleyan won the opening game.
- Traylor was credited with the loss in the circle, giving up only two earned runs on 10 hits in six innings of work.
FOR THE FOES:
- Three Warriors finished with multiple hits, led by Lydia Clanton who finished with four RBIs.
- Megan Vaughn gave up only one earned run on 11 hits in six innings to earn the victory.
GAME #2 BASICS
FINAL SCORE: Southern Wesleyan – 5; Lees-McRae – 4
LOCATION: Softball Field – Banner Elk, North Carolina
RECORDS: Southern Wesleyan (11-7/5-3), Lees-McRae (4-18/1-7)
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Crowe went 3 for 3 with two runs scored and an RBI in game two to lead the Bobcats.
- Thomas finished 2 for 3 from the plate with a run scored, while Ikard went 1 for 2 with a run scored and two RBIs.
- Ikard opened the Lees-McRae scoring in the bottom of the first inning with a two-run home run to give the Bobcats an early lead.
- After the Warriors scored a single run in the top of the third, Lees-McRae pushed their lead to 4-1 on a sacrifice fly by Ikard and an RBI singly by Abby West.
- The Bobcats' final run came in the bottom of the fourth as Crowe singled up the middle to score Thomas.
- Southern Wesleyan had two runners in scoring position in the top of the sixth, trailing by one, but Traylor forced a groundout and a foul out to strand the runners.
- The Warriors went 1, 2, and 3 in the top of the seventh to give the Bobcats the conference split.
- Raygan Rensing earned the victory on the mound for the Bobcats, giving up only three earned runs on eight hits in 5.1 innings, while Traylor earned the save by not allowing a hit in 1.2 innings.
FOR THE FOES:
- Savannah Huff paced the Warriors in game two, going 2 for 4 from the dish with three RBIs.
- Delanie Laudenbacher was credited with the loss in the circle, giving up four earned runs in three innings of work.
