Softball plates 15 runs on 24 hits in doubleheader split at Tusculum

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. – Two Bobcats finished with multiple hits in game one, while Julie Gast, Addyson Ikard, Raygan Rensing and Charlsy Traylor combined for 11 hits, nine RBIs, five runs scored and two doubles in game two to pace the Lees-McRae softball team to a split in the non-conference doubleheader against Tusculum.
 
GAME #1 BASICS
FINAL SCORE: Tusculum – 9; Lees-McRae - 6
LOCATION: Red Edmonds Field – Greeneville, Tennessee
RECORDS: Tusculum (6-5), Lees-McRae (2-9)
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Katelyn Wyatt and Cassidy Coleman each finished with a pair of hits to lead the Bobcats in game one, with Wyatt adding an RBI and a run scored.
  • Amber Corvin went 1 for 2 with two RBIs and two runs scored.
  • Sarah Beth Thomas and Gast both chipped in an RBI, while Ikard, Hannah Foster and Abby West all scored.
  • After three innings of scoreless action, Lees-McRae opened the scoring in the top of the fourth as Corvin singled to second base that scored two runs, Wyatt singled to score West and Corvin scored a couple of pitches later on a wild pitch.
  • The Bobcats extended their lead to 5-0, two batters later, as Gast singled to score Wyatt.
  • Tusculum responded in the bottom of the inning by scoring seven runs on only three hits to reclaim the lead.
  • The Pioneers scored two more insurance markers in the bottom of the fifth, before Lees-McRae closed out the game's scoring on a sacrifice fly by Thomas in the top of the sixth.
  • Rensing, Wyatt and Traylor all pitched for the Bobcats in game one, giving up only three earned runs on seven hits in six innings of work.
 
FOR THE FOES:
  • Anna Alloway paced the Pioneer from the plate by going 3 for 4 with a double.
  • Keylon Reynolds earned the victory on the mound for Tusculum, giving up only one run on four hits in 3.2 innings of work, while Emily Sappington and Kaitlyn Pickens surrendered four runs on five hits in 3.1 inning.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Ikard and Traylor both finished 3 for 4 from the plate, with Ikard tallying an RBI and two runs scored and Traylor posting three RBIs, while Gast finished 2 for 5 with four RBIs.
  • Rensing went 3 for 4 from the dish with two runs scored and an RBI.
  • Foster finished 2 of 4 form the pate with a run scored, while Thomas and Coleman also registered a hit.
  • Lees-McRae struck first for the second-consecutive game by scoring two runs with two outs in the top of the first.
  • Ikard doubled to left center that scored Gast (who singled in her first at-bat) and Traylor singled two batters later that scored Ikard from third.
  • After Tusculum scored once in the bottom of the innings, the Bobcats pushed across their third run as Rensing turned a lead-off single into a run scored on a throwing error by the Pioneers.
  • Tusculum scored again in the bottom of the second to trim the deficit to 3-2.
  • Lees-McRae pushed the lead to 6-3 in the top of the sixth as Gast doubled to right field with bases loaded that scored Thomas, Rensing and Meredith Summey.
  • The Bobcats closed out the scoring as Traylor hit a two-RBI single to right center field and Rensing singled to left field that scored McKinley Johnson.
  • Rensing was credited with the win for Lees-McRae, giving up only one run on four hits in 6.2 inning of work, while Wyatt gave up only one run on three hits in 0.1 innings of work.
  • Foster, Johnson, West and Rensing all finished with a stolen base, with Foster tallying two stolen bases.
 
FOR THE FOES:
  • Alloway led the Pioneers again in game two, going 3 for 4 with a double, an RBI, and a run scored.
  • Delilah Malczewski was credited with the loss in the circle, giving up five earned runs on 11 hits in six innings of work, while Madison Michael gave up three runs on four hits in one inning of relief.
 
UP NEXT:
The Bobcats will open their conference season on Saturday as they visit "Battle for the Blue Ridge Cup" rival King (Tenn.) in a twin bill starting at 1 p.m.
