BLUEFIELD, W. Va. –
Cassidy Coleman,
Julie Gast,
Lauren Ritchie and
Charlsy Traylor all hit home runs, led by Traylor with two in game one, while Ritchie tallied a team-high six combined RBIs to lead the Lees-McRae softball team to a doubleheader sweep against host Bluefield State in the non-conference twin bill this afternoon.
GAME #1 BASICS
FINAL SCORE: Lees-McRae – 10; Bluefield State – 1 (5 inn.)
LOCATION: Bluefield High School Field – Bluefield, West Virginia
RECORDS: Lees-McRae (8-23), Bluefield State (0-13)
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Ritchie finished 3 for 3 from the plate with a double, a triple, three RBIs and two runs scored to pace the Bobcats in game one.
- Traylor went 2 for 2 with two home runs, three RBIs, while Gast was 2 for 4 with a run scored.
- Coleman and Amber Corvin also registered a hit in the first game.
- After a scoreless first inning, the Bobcats opened the scoring in the top of the second with a solo home run to right center field by Traylor, an RBI-single by Ritchie and a run scored off a hit by pitch.
- Lees-McRae pushed the lead to 4-0 with a double in the top of the third inning.
- Bluefield State closed the gap with a single run on a home run in the bottom of the third inning, before the Bobcats pushed the lead to 7-1 on a sacrifice fly by Addyson Ikard and a two-run home run by Traylor.
- Lees-McRae closed out its scoring with an RBI-triple by Ritchie and a two-run home run by Coleman in the top of the fifth.
- Raygan Rensing earned the win in the circle for the Bobcats, giving up only one run on three hits in five innings of work. She also tallied a game-high eight strikeouts.
FOR THE FOES:
- Lisette Rosales went 2 for 2 with an RBI to pace Bluefield State in game one.
- Kylie Nelson and Madison Thompson shared time in the circle, giving up 10 runs on nine hits in five innings of work.
GAME #2 BASICS

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Ritchie went 3 for 3 in game two as well with a home run, a double, three RBIs and two runs scored.
- Katelyn Wyatt was 2 for 3 with two doubles, four RBIs and a run scored, while Traylor was 2 for 3 with two runs scored.
- Gast tallied a home run, three RBIs and two runs scored, while Ikard and Meredith Summey both also registered a hit in game two.
- Lees-McRae opened the scoring in the top of the second as Traylor scored on a throwing error, before Wyatt doubled down the right-field line that scored Hannah Foster to give the Bobcats a 2-0 lead.
- The Bobcats extended the lead to 6-0 on another double by Wyatt, a double by Ritchie and an RBI-single by Summey in the top of the third inning.
- Lees-McRae pushed the lead to 12-0 in the top of the fourth inning on a three-run home run by Gast, an RBI-groundout by Wyatt and a two-run home run by Ritchie.
- Bluefield State scored the final run of the contest on an RBI-single in the bottom of the fourth.
- In addition to her four RBIs, Wyatt also earned the win for the Bobcats by not giving up an earned run on two hits in five innings of work.
FOR THE FOES:
- Jessi Foster and Rosales each registered a hit for Bluefield State in game two.
- Ashlee Brassart and Kennedy James gave up 12 runs on 10 hits in five innings of work.
UP NEXT:
The Bobcats will return to Banner Elk for the first time since March 21 as they host Carson-Newman for a non-conference doubleheader starting at 1 p.m. on Thursday, April 8.
