Women's Volleyball Sweeps Southern Wesleyan in Home Finale

BANNER ELK, N.C. -- Lees-McRae women's volleyball downed Southern Wesleyan in three sets in their home finale on the McNair & Debi Tornow Court on Wednesday night. Madison Goins started the offensive attack for the Bobcats with 29 assists and chipped in 15 digs for a double-double.

FINAL SCORE: Lees-McRae def. Southern Wesleyan, 3-0 (25-23, 25-21, 25-21)

RECORDS: Lees-McRae (6-18/5-9); SWU (3-19/1-12)

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Lees-McRae jumped out to a quick 3-0 after a service ace by Sydney Stigler. Southern Wesleyan rallied back in the early stages of the set to take a 7-5 edge. The two sides traded points through the middle parts of the first frame, but the Bobcats held the 21-19 advantage after a kill by Destiny Holley. The Bobcats earned the first set by a final of 25-23 after a kill by Annalaine Tew.
  • In the second set, Goins gave the Bobcats the first two points of the set with back-to-back service aces. Lees-McRae pushed its lead to 22-19 after four consecutive points capped by a spike by Stigler. The Bobcats earned the second set by a score of 25-21 after a kill via Julia Emore.
  • In the third set, the Bobcats had an early 11-5 lead, but SWU battled back after registering seven straight points at 12-11. Lees-McRae tied the set at 18 apiece and seized control of the set after four consecutive points. Goins recorded the final kill of the night for the Bobcats to earn the 25-21 set victory.
  • The Bobcats narrowly outhit the Warriors in the match, .234 to .223, with Lees-McRae having the edge in kills at 51-34.
  • Stigler had her third consecutive match with double-digit kills with 17 as Emore followed with 10 kills and 15 assists. Holley added eight kills to her season totals and Bre Adamson tallied 12 digs in the three-set win.

FOR THE WARRIORS:
  • Amber Bass led the offensive front for Southern Wesleyan with 11 kills and added seven digs on the night.
  • Ashley Sexton had a team-high 16 assists and Kali Letcher followed with 12 in the contest.
UP NEXT:
Lees-McRae heads to Wilson, North Carolina for a Conference Carolinas matchup with Barton on Friday, Oct. 21. The match is the first of five road matches to end the season for the Bobcats.
