Women's Basketball Suffers 63-50 Loss to Emory & Henry on Thursday Evening

BANNER ELK, N.C. – Emory & Henry used a second-half comeback to earn the 63-50 victory on Thursday night over Lees-McRae women's basketball. Sandra Mason recorded a team-high 13 points on 5-11 shooting for the Bobcats.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Emory & Henry jumped out to an early 7-1 lead, but Jala Holloman collected his first three of the game to cut the deficit to 7-4 with 5:32 left in the first quarter. The Wasps closed the quarter with the 16-11 advantage after a made jumper via Breanna Yarber.
  • E&H extended its lead to seven after a fast break layup by Macy McClellan to open the scoring, but Mason knocked down a three at the 8:06 mark in the second quarter to make the score 18-14 in favor of the Wasps. Holloman closed the score to 18-17 after a three-pointer by Holloman with 7:32 left in the half. The Bobcats then went on a 8-0 to take the 30-25 lead and entered the halftime break with the 32-27 edge after a made basket via Mason.
  • Mason pushed the Bobcats' lead to eight in the first 18 seconds of the half as E&H scored 11 unanswered to take the 38-36 advantage. Emory & Henry led 41-38 after the third quarter as Jessica Henderson collected two points with a jumper at the 1:13 mark of the quarter.
  • In the fourth quarter, the Wasps jumped out to a 13-point margin after a three by Amaya Lee with 2:48 left as Emory & Henry collected the 63-50 win on Thursday evening.
  • Holloman followed Mason in the scoring column with 11 points on 3-5 shooting from deep. Roberts chipped in nine points in 31 minutes of play as the Bobcats ,as a whole, shot 34.5% (20-58) from the floor with seven three-pointers.
FOR THE WASPS:
  • Emory & Henry was paced by Lee and Yarber as they both had 14 points on the night. Emma Santoro added 12 points and seven rebounds to her season totals and McClellan joined her teammates in double-figures with 10.
  • E&H shot 37.7% (23-61) from the field and went 11-18 from the charity stripe.
UP NEXT:
Lees-McRae opens Conference Carolinas play on Tuesday, Nov. 22 as the Bobcats head to Franklin Springs, Georgia for a 5:30 p.m. matchup with Emmanuel.
