Third-quarter run lifts Emmanuel past Women’s Basketball, 80-61

FRANKLIN SPRINGS, Ga. – MaKayla Smith and Malikah Meyers both scored a team-high 16 points and combined nine rebounds and five assists, while Brianna Wright matched a career-high with 10 points off the bench, but it was not enough as host Emmanuel outscored the Bobcats 28-10 in the third quarter en route to clinching a 80-61 win in the Conference Carolinas action.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Smith shot 6 of 12 from the floor and 4 of 6 from the charity stripe, while also chipping a team-high four assists.
  • Meyers shot 6 of 11 from the field to go along with a team-high nine rebounds, while Wright also added two steals.
  • Olivia King chipped in six points and four rebounds.
  • Both teams traded runs early in the first half until a late 5-1 run by the Bobcats, highlighted by a jumper by McKenna Kersat with only six seconds remaining, to cut the deficit to 16-13 at the first intermission.
  • Emmanuel extended the lead to as many as nine points in the second frame, but another late Bobcat rally, including a buzzer-beating three-pointer by Meyers, evened the scored at 36-36 at halftime.
  • The Lions outscored the Bobcats 28-10 in the third quarter to claim a 64-46 lead at the final intermission.
  • Emmanuel held the lead over 20 points for the majority of the final quarter to clinch the conference win.
  • Lees-McRae held a 17-11 edge in bench production, but were outscored 13-4 in second-chance points and 29-9 in fastbreak points.
 
FOR THE FOES:
  • Three Lions scored in double figures, led by Sydney Wyatt with a game-high 24 points.
 
UP NEXT:
The Bobcat will close out the Conference Carolinas weekend as they visit Erskine tomorrow at 2 p.m.
