Men’s Volleyball falls short to North Greenville in four

BANNER ELK, N.C.Michael Marsans finished with a team-high 18 kills, while Steven Nalls tallied a match-high 10 kills, but it was not enough as visiting North Greenville held a 43-38 edge in kills and finished with a match-high 10 total blocks en route to clinching the four-set win over the Bobcats in the Conference Carolinas match this afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Marsans paced the Bobcats in kills, while also chipping in five digs.
  • M.J. Doyle added nine kills and three block assists, with Bradley Peters tallying three kills, 31 assists and six digs.
  • North Greenville sprinted out of the gates by scoring 15 of the first 21 points in the first set to claim the early momentum.
  • Lees-McRae rallied to trim the deficit to 22-17, but a pair of Bobcat errors late gave the Crusaders the 25-18 win in set one.
  • The Bobcats responded in the second set by using a 7-1 run to take a 17-11 lead.
  • After North Greenville rallied to cut the lead to 23-21, Lees-McRae used a Marsan's kill and a late Crusader error to clinch the set, 25-22.
  • Both teams battled throughout the third set with a late kill by Peters giving the Bobcats a 24-23 lead.
  • North Greenville rattled off three straight points to clinch the frame, 26-24.
  • The Crusaders completed the four-set win by posting a 25-18 win in set four.
  • Lees-McRae held a slim 8-6 advantage in service aces.
 
FOR THE FOES:
  • Gregory Torres and Michael de la Cruz finished with 18 and 10 kills respectively to lead the Crusaders.
 
UP NEXT:
The Bobcats will open a four-match road trip on Wednesday, Feb. 23 as they travel to Belmont Abbey for a 7 p.m. match.
