Meyers’ game-winning shot lifts Women’s Basketball past Emmanuel for third consecutive win, 52-50

BANNER ELK, N.C.Malikah Meyers connected on a pull-up jumper from just to the right of the foul line with only two seconds remaining in the contest to give the Lees-McRae women's basketball team a 52-50 win over visiting Emmanuel to clinch their third win in a row and fourth victory in their last five games.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Jala Holloman tallied a game-high 17 points to go along with two rebounds and a steal, while Meyers chipped in eight points and five rebounds.
  • MaKayla Smith and Aurora Roberts both added seven points, with Roberts also grabbing a game-high 10 rebounds.
  • Jessica Henderson also tallied nine points, three assists, and three steals off the bench.
  • Emmanuel sprinted out of the gates by outscoring the Bobcats 18-2 in the first 10 minutes of action.
  • Lees-McRae slowly chipped away at the lead over the next 10 minutes and used a late jumper by Meyers to cut the deficit to 25-15 at halftime.
  • After the Bobcats cut the lead down to 27-25 with 3:51 left in the third quarter, Emmanuel closed the frame 10-7 run to hold a 37-32 edge at the final intermission.
  • Lees-McRae continued to trim the lead in the opening minutes of the fourth quarter and used a pair of free throws by Roberts to take a 41-40 lead.
  • The lead changed hands multiple times in the closing minutes until a free throw by the Lions evened the score at 50-50 with 28 seconds left.
  • Meyers collected the ball beyond the three-point line with less than 10 seconds remaining and drove to the right with one dribble and pulled up with two seconds remaining to score the game-winning shot.
  • Lees-McRae outscored the visitors 13-2 in bench production and 11-7 in second-chance points.
 
FOR THE FOES:
  • Three Lions posted double figures, led by Sydney Wyatt with a team-high 16 points.
  • Jazmin Allen chipped in 10 points, nine rebounds, and two assists.
 
UP NEXT:
The Bobcat will travel to Emmanuel on Friday, Feb. 11 in the first game of a two-game Conference Carolinas weekend.
