Men’s Volleyball drops Conference Carolinas match to Erskine in three

DUE WEST, S.C.Michael Marsans and Max Kuntz finished with 14 and eight kills respectively, but it was not enough as host Erskine finished with a 42-32 edge in kills and a 6-1 advantage in service aces en route to clinching the three-set victory over the visiting Bobcats in the non-conference action this evening.

FINAL SCORE: Erskine def. Lees-McRae, 3-0 (25-21, 25-22, 25-20)

RECORDS: Erskine (10-14/4-5), Lees-McRae (7-9/3-6)
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Marsans paced the Bobcats with 14 points to go along with two block assists and four digs, while Kuntz chipped in six digs, two solo blocks, and two block assists.
  • Riley Chapman chipped in five kills and three digs, with Steven Nalls and Bradley Peters adding a team-high nine digs and a team-high 29 assists respectively.
  • Erskine sprinted out of the gates by scoring 12 of the first 18 points to grab momentum early and extended the lead to 22-13.
  • Lees-McRae responded with an 8-2 run to trim the deficit to 24-21, but a final kill by the Flying Fleet gave Erskine a 25-21 win in set one.
  • The Bobcats maintained a sizeable lead in the early stage of the second set, thanks in large part to an early 6-2 run, until Erksine rallied to even the score at 21-21.
  • The Flying Fleet closed the frame on a 4-1 run to clinch a 25-22 win in set two.
  • Both teams traded points for much of the third stanza with a late attacking error by Erskine and a kill by Marsans cutting the lead to 24-20.
  • The Flying Fleet secured the final kill to clinch the conference win.
  • Erskine held a slim 9-7 edge in total blocks.
 
FOR THE FOES:
  • Edgerrin Austin and Kacper Rybarczyk finished with 15 and 13 kills respectively to pace the Flying Fleet.
 
UP NEXT:
The Bobcats will travel to Franklin Springs, Georgia tomorrow for a 2 p.m. showdown with Emmanuel to close out the Conference Carolinas weekend.
